Eastern Carolina Esoterica
Hi, my name is Eric Josey. I am a farmer from Scotland Neck, located in Halifax County, NC. I am a curious person, obsessed with getting to the bottom of nuanced or esoteric subjects. Writing is one of my many passions, along with conservation, ecology, ancient lithic tools, geology, biology, pond management, fishing, and my dog, Walden, just to name a few. I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in a rural area. Having lived in the city of Raleigh for five years, I can appreciate the stark juxtaposition of the lifestyles associated with urban and rural communities. But the juxtaposition goes deeper than simple lifestyle differences. There is an incongruity of information available to those who want to know more about where they are. There are countless words dedicated to any topic of interest pertaining to individuals/events/places in urban areas. This is not the case for rural North Carolina, particularly the northeastern portion of the coastal plain.
I spend inordinate amounts of time scouring the internet for information about my surroundings, and all I find are dead ends. This blog is an effort to combat the glaring lack of readily available information about this part of the state. The nature of the content in my posts will pertain to specific locations and topics that might only be of interest to a small group of people. I will also try to cover relevant topics relating to rural life not specific to NC. That said, I hope that everyone who reads will take away something of use from my posts. Thanks for reading, and feel free to reach out.
